GLP-1 Medications and Real Talk: Managing the In-Between

We've covered why this happens and what actually helps. For this last one, we wanted to talk about the part that's harder to put a timeline on — how it feels while you're in the middle of it.

Here's something we haven't said yet in this series, and we probably should have said it first: it's okay if this is frustrating.

We can tell you the shedding is usually temporary. We can tell you what helps. But none of that changes the fact that watching your hair change — even when you understand why, even when you know it'll pass — is genuinely hard some days. You're allowed to feel that without needing to talk yourself out of it.

What You Can Control (and What You Can't)

One thing that seems to help our clients is separating the two.

You can't control the timeline. You can't speed up a growth cycle, and you can't will your hair back to exactly where it was a year ago. That part just isn't in your hands, and we're not going to pretend otherwise.

What you can control is everything we've talked about the last few weeks — the cut, the color, the scalp care, how you're handling it day to day. That's not nothing. It's actually a lot. It's just not the same as controlling the outcome directly, and that distinction matters.

Progress Is Quiet Until It Isn't

If you're looking for your hair to visibly turn a corner all at once, you're probably going to be waiting a while and feeling discouraged in the meantime. That's not usually how this goes.

More often, it's subtle for a long stretch — you're not totally sure if things have shifted or if you're just used to it — and then one day you notice, almost by accident, that it's not doing what it was doing a few months ago. We see this pattern often enough that we trust it, even when it's hard to trust in the moment.

You're Not the Only One Sitting in This Chair

If it helps to hear it: you are not the only client we're having this conversation with right now. This has come up often enough over the past few months that we felt it was worth writing this whole series in the first place. Whatever you're feeling about it — frustrated, self-conscious, just tired of thinking about it — you're in good company, and none of it is anything to be embarrassed about here.

Where We Land

This is really what this whole series has been about: you don't have to figure this out alone, and you don't have to pretend it's not affecting you. We can't change what your body is doing. But we can be honest with you, adjust what we do to support you, and be a steady part of getting through this stretch instead of just another appointment on the calendar.

If you're navigating this right now, we'd love to talk it through with you — no need to have it all figured out before you come in. That's what we're here for.
