Your First Visit, Demystified

What actually happens when you walk through our doors for the first time — and why we do it that way.

New client appointments are one of our favorite things. There's something genuinely exciting about meeting someone for the first time and getting to understand their hair, their lifestyle, and what they're actually looking for — not just what they think they're supposed to ask for.

If you've ever felt anxious about trying a new salon, you're not alone. There's a lot of trust involved in sitting down in someone's chair. We want you to know exactly what to expect so you can walk in feeling confident — and, ideally, walk out feeling even better.

Here's a clear, honest look at how a first appointment at Tailored works.

First Time Salon Appointments start with a Consultation

Before anyone picks up a brush or a pair of shears, we talk. Our consultation isn't a formality — it's the most important part of the appointment. We'll ask about your current routine, your goals, what's been working, and what hasn't. We want to understand your hair, but also your life. How much time do you realistically want to spend styling in the morning? What does "low maintenance" mean to you? These details matter.

We'll Be Honest With You

Transparency is something we take seriously. If you bring in an inspiration photo and your hair type or current color is going to make it a challenge, we'll tell you that — along with what is achievable and what a realistic path forward looks like. We'd rather give you an honest answer upfront than overpromise and underdeliver.

No Assumptions, Ever

We use gender-neutral language and we don't make assumptions about what you want based on how you look or identify. You're here for a service that fits you — we follow your lead, not a script.

We Explain As We Go

If we're recommending a specific technique or product, we'll tell you why. Understanding your hair — what it responds to, what to avoid, how to care for it at home — is something we genuinely want to pass along. You shouldn't have to guess. We're happy to explain anything, and there are no dumb questions here.

Pricing Is Transparent

We price based on the service, product and time needed…that’s customized and based on your needs in the consultation. You can expect a price quote of the options provided. We never want to make the money talk an awkward one and we know everyone has a budget! No surprises at the end.

A small tip before you arrive

Come with your hair in its natural state if possible, so we can see exactly what we're working with. If that's not practical, no worries at all. If you style regularly a certain way…let us know that too. And if you have inspiration photos saved or a Pinterest board, bring them. Even photos of what you don't want are genuinely helpful.

What You Don't Have to Worry About

You don't have to know the exact name or description of what you want. You don't have to have it all figured out before you walk in. You don't have to pretend you love something we've done if you're not sure — we'd genuinely rather know. And you don't have to rush the consultation to be polite. That time is yours.

First appointments are a two-way thing. We're getting to know you, and you're getting to know us. We believe the entire success of the service is determined within the time we spend consulting. The goal is that by the time you leave, you feel like you've found somewhere you actually want to come back to.

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ "Sarah was great! She really took the time to figure out exactly how I wanted my bangs, layers, and length to be. We did somewhat of a major transformation cutting off a good amount of length, and she was super receptive and loved talking with her the whole time. I love my new hair and Tailored!!" - Bailey

We hope that's what happens. And if it is, we'll make sure the next visit is even easier, Book Here.
